Reading, Phonics and Accelerated Reader
Children in Reception and Y1 will follow our reading scheme at the core of which is Oxford Reading Tree - Biff, Chip, Kipper and Floppy as well as dedicated phonic books to practise taught sounds.
Children in KS1 and KS2 have a dedicated reading session every day. Children in Years 2 - 6 use the Accelerated Reader programme where they choose their own reading books and take a quiz after they have read their book. Even though children read in school, it is still vital that they continue to practise reading at home, parents asking questions about the story / poem/ non-fiction book; reading also includes listening to stories and a book at bedtime is still popular!
