Centre for Life

Year 5 and 6 children took part in a series of exciting space-themed Maths workshops run by the Centre for Life.

Session one involved testing their measuring skills by finding the perfect angle to launch rockets so that they travel the greatest distance possible, having brilliant fun making and firing the rockets. This was followed by a period spent in an portable 7m wide planetarium looking at the units of measure and the relative distances between parts of the solar system and the wider universe- a fascinating view of the night sky. Finally they had a chance to examine rocks that had come from Space, using their measuring skills to calculate the volume and mass of different samples.

All the children really enjoyed the session, especially being able to fire the rockets!
