Water Vole Release

7th June 2019
Curlew class spent the day at Kielder with Kelly from the Northumberland Wildlife Trust. We first of all fed the trapped voles and prepared their cages for a 'soft' release. This means that they can come and go from their cage until they are happy with the new environment.
Later we let some water voles go straight into the water and watched them swim away. We were filmed by Tyne Tees for the news that evening.
We went to a new animal hide which overlooks the water where we released the voles. There we saw our work on the wall which has been made into an interpretation board. It is quite near to Kielder Castle which means that eveyone can easily go and see it.
