Restoring Ratty

Monday 15th October
Huge thanks to the team from Northumberland Wildlife Trust who came to talk to us in school today. They then took us to the River East Allen where we learned how to set up a trap and where to place them for the best results. We are hoping that we catch a few water voles by tomorrow morning.
Any voles that are captured will be sent to a special breeding centre in Devon before eventually returning to Northumberland for release into the Kielder area. A couple of years ago the population of water voles in Kielder was wiped out completely by American mink. The mink have now been eradicated and the voles will be able to thrive once more.
